5/5/23--- I went to the shallow water white perch area to see if the white perch are there yet. No perch are there yet, but it is loaded with rock fish. I hooked six rock and landed all but one with a 2.5" Gulp Minnow on a 1/16th jig head. Good thing I use a 20# leader to grab when I hook a good size fish. I could never lift these fish out of the water with my perch rod. Maybe next week for the perch.

What a pleasant surprise, Andy! That second one looks like it could be a wiper. Good eating for sure!

Yes your right. The night cold Temp. kills the warm day Temp.

Ah OK. Wasn't sure about MD regs. Thought there may have been an overlap w/ VA.

No damn perch where we were today either. I think the cold weather has chased them back into deeper water Andy. Not even a damn nibble. We even ran out to the shipping channel to see if we could scare up a trophy Rockfish, nada. The water was near glass calm.

Andy, you might want to be careful about having those fish out of the water longer than it takes to remove the hook. John Law doesn’t take kindly to us stressing the fish anymore than necessary when they are out of season. Does look like a fun day though. Nice work!

I had them back in the water real fast. I didn't even want to catch them. As soon as I knew there was no perch there yet I left the area because it was all rock fish there. They were all by-catch. I was looking for perch. But I hear you on keeping them out of the water too long. I think from now on I will not lay them down to take a picture. I will just try to hold them, take picture then release. Like this. I try to do what's right for the fish/rock fish. I don't do catch and release fishing like a lot of fishermen do all day long. I even set a limit for myself for crappie and white perch. My limit for white perch in 15. But I understand what you said. Thanks!
