Taking a family vacation in the early summer. I’ve got 4 young sons who are nuts about fishing. I’d like to get a simple setup or two so we can try surf fishing in the mornings or evenings. Any tips, or direction would be great!
Surf rods, 1-2oz weights, sand fleas you can have fun digging out of the sand. Put the weight on a 3 way swivel and cast it out with the flea, shrimp, etc. on a #1 hook and best of luck to you! Good luck!
You can buy some inexpensive rods/reels at Walmart.

Read the attached article "Where to Surf Fish". On the Gulf side of Florida, it is best to go for a walk at low tide and look for potential spots to fish on a higher tide. You can teach your boys how to read the beach. Also, look at the article on tackle. You can get away with lighter tackle than you would think. Mostly the biggest fish you will catch on sandfleas is a 4-pound pompano. Whiting are smaller than pompano. Also, get some Fish Bites in sandflea and shrimp flavor. Cut a half-inch square and put it on your hook after putting a chuck of shrimp or a whole sandflea. Check your baits every 15 minutes or so. Rule number 4 or 5 is to move to another spot if you don't get a bite in a half hour or 45 minutes.
You guys, this is all great. I really appreciate the input.
Thank you!
