Yep my dad used to do this, and out of habit since he set the example, I did it when my kids were small even though they had seat belts on!

On one of my first dates with my now wife of almost 40 years, I had to make a sudden stop to avoid a pedestrian bolting into the street and I instinctively reached over with my arm, slamming into her PFDs. I was super apologetic not wanting her to think I had ulterior motives, and she graciously let it slide given the context, lol.π°π₯΅
Did that same thing on a business trip to Denver. My co-pilot was a Well endowed banker. Instincts die hard!

I still find when I break hard my hand reaches over to the passenger seat even if no one or nothing is there. guess muscle memory is better than actual memory as you get older
