Launched at 0700 yesterday and the wind was up a little. We ran out to one of the coves on The Little Choptank and the wind REALLY picked up which made for a "sporty" ride back. We got 6 in one place and 4 in another. I think they'll be back in bigger numbers in the next 2 weeks.

Nice White Perch Uncle Rob. Be careful when that wind is up out there. Thanks for the picture.

They look meaty, I’ll bet they are good on the table. Good catch.

Depends on the day Tim, some days they want minnows, some they want worms and yesterday they were all about the Grass shrimp. This time of year they're trying to regain the weight they lost during their spawning run. Later in the season they'll be all about minnows. We get "defective" soft crabs on the Eastern shore from a slougher, the ones that are missing parts or die during the moult. Soft crab is ALWAYS a good bait, but they will knock it off if you're not watching them like a hawk. We use a slow retrieve on a small spoon like a Tony Acetta #12 or #13. I will try spinners during the summer and they do well. Bobby pin spinners will be great in June and early July tipped with a minnow.

I'm a former USCG Rescue Swimmer, there's no way I'd endanger my crew. We stay in close when the wind is up and in the back creeks. We were less than 3000 metres from a safer harbor. They guys in 20+' boats were saying hell no to going out beyond the end of the creek, it was sporty out beyond where we were.

Obviously you have the experience and know when to call it a day, due to conditions. Just reminding you to bring cautious.

Side question. Why do you use the thin blade rather than the filet blade on your knife? I always wondered what it is for. I guessed it was for some kind of east coast special fish cleaning that I am not aware of. Nice catch.

It works the best on those little fish. I use the larger, wider blades on flounder or larger fish. Those thinner blades allow me to get all of the meat off a carcass. I also use the wider blades for carving poultry.

Thanks, I will give it a try.
