I had commented on the calls on the Water Moccasin versus Water Snake combinations...basically every combo was represented, from one and one both sides to both poisonous, both harmless

Then the Pumkinseed...
...yep Pumpkinseed
...nope Bluegill
...Long Eared Bluegill
...hybrid (good CYA, Lol)
...Sunfish
...and honorable mentions, fish that swims and my favorite, thumbsucker

Anyway, it is humorous that a long list of answers can generally cover every possibility

It was a tongue in cheek commentary on people posting "what is this" questions that get every possible answer and some that were never thought of.

What you missed was someone asking if a fish they posted asking "is this a Pumpkinseed?" got a wide range of variations...

It's just funny to me...

Hey my friend, just got back from a week of fishing at Berryessa. We concentrated on the bass. As of Wednesday we started to see more boats trolling for the trout/ salmon. All boats were utilizing downriggers and trolling the main lake. We marked fish in the 40 ft depth. Not much bait balls. Tried a bit of trolling, no results. The lake is warming up quickly. Hope this info helps.

It does...
I figured we'd troll out the Pleasure Cove arm in the morning, head over to the Big Island and troll the deep side going towards Skiers Cove...slow it down after mid morning and switch to dodgers and Criplures and Kokanee type stuff...then check out the Putah Creek area for Crappie. Depending on what we are seeing on the fish finder we'll look at either jigging if big fish are holding the bottom of the main lake, or casting lures if we can find bait balls and birds in coves. Last spring there were tons of fish all the way up to the shallow end by the marina.

I've been studying some half hour videos a couple of guides have posted that look promising for the faster morning, slower mid morning, and casting to bait balls in coves later. The cove casting was smoking hot, they were literally getting a really nice fish every other cast.

Over on a big site centered in the Florida area, technical questions can start a war, those guys get downright mean about it.

I suspect people learn the identity of certain species when they're kids, maybe by their dads or friends, and it sticks with them. I met a young man while fishing the lower American River in Fair Oaks who Identified what was obviously a Sacramento Sucker as a jacksmelt. He was adamant.
