I inherited this fly rod and reel when my father-in-law passed away 3 years ago. I have included pictures to see if anyone knows anything about the rod builder, what’s the rod made of (it’s very lightweight), what is the make/model of the reel…any info would be appreciated. I want to get this thing back in action but know nothing about setting up a fly rod. Is this 8 1/2 foot rod suited to salt water fishing? I’ve also included a picture of some of the flies he had on hand. I fished with this man for 25 years and never saw this rod in his hand. They lived at Edenton bay on the Albermarle Sound. We enjoyed a lot of good times fishing.

Write to Bassmaster/what it’s worth, and he should be able to tell you something about it

I can’t find a thing on it, nor the company. It looks as though your FIL was a bass fisherman, though?
Put a new tippet on it and go catch a fish in his memory! You may want to check the main line, though 😉
Good luck!

Thank you for your reply OJ. Yes, he probably had it primarily for bass fishing (I assumed that from the flies) but he mainly loved to target stripers in the sound, mahi and tuna offshore and Spanish and blues nearshore. Like I said, I never saw him use this fly rig.

BD you might could check out some of the Basspro shop as they have some saltwater fly fishing tackle such as lines/backing/rods/ flies/streamers and such. they can give you loads of info. also checl with tackel shops on Harkers Island, EJW @ Morehead and Bluewaters on causeway going to Atlantic beach. Tight Lines

Would be helpful to see the REEL SEAT, Beachdrummer. Judging from the pic that shows the line eye, and the info that Grizzly found, you have a fly reel, yes, but most likely the rod is a spinning rod....not really meant to go together, traditionally.
Is the reel seat totally at the butt of the rod ?.....fly rod.
Or is it further up the rod (~10"-18") ?.....spinning or casting rod.
Good luck on your search. And by all means, you should use it. Some of my favorite rods are 25-40yrs old....still catch fish !!

A couple more pictures.
This rod is definitely a spinning rod.
They do make flyrods n collapsible.

I have a fly rod. Sorry I didn’t include the picture I took of the lower end of the rod. I have attached it now. The reel seat is on the very end of the rod handle.

Interesting that it should have the line guides(normally spinning rod-type) in the other pics, but a fly reel seat. Have not seen that before.
