Went ultralight jigging in flooded 72 degree Sturgeon Pond this evening on a warm, sunny day with a west wind small craft advisory. The second bridge is falling apart. I was fortunate to successfully cross without falling into the water. Caught and released 6 black crappies, 3 bluegills to 8.5” and 2 largemouth bass with 1/32 oz Big Eye jigs and 1” blue flake twister tails on 2 lb test line. Lost 2 jigs on the bottom of the pond. Saw a big muskrat swimming nearby. Beavers arrived and slapped their tails on the surface of the pond. A Canada goose was sitting on a nest on one of the 3 beaver 🦫 lodges. Great blue heron, mallards, redwings, mourning doves and vultures flew nearby. I took lots of pics. Found 3 5 gallon buckets and a pendant while walking back to my car. Fiddle head ferns were growing in the woods. Didn’t see anyone.

They did not welcome me into their home. When they sneak up behind me then slap their tail, I get startled.

Do you harvest the Fiddleheads? THYE are great eating. I’ve never picked them myself. I live in West Chester Pa and haven’t really seen them near me. I’ve always gotten them in Maine. Wonderful earring.

Grew up in northern New Jersey, caught lots of bass in dairy ponds. Rarely had any human company. But lots of mosquitos!

Quite good but not cheap if you don't harvest them yourself.

I was in a deer climbing stand on a small creek the first time I ever heard that. I also still kinda young and it scared the poopie out of me. I thought for sure a rougarou was coming for me.

Used to live in Vermont and they were everywhere round about this time of year. Tasted kinda like asparagus; wasn't really a fan. Surprisingly good though when stir-fried with fried rice and garlic.
