Went ultralight carping in flooded, 79 degree Robert G Martin Lake this evening on a hot, sunny day with a strong south wind. Air temp was 88 degrees. Saw a snapping turtle 🐢 west of my spot soon after I arrived. Threw out a can of corn 🌽 for chum, then caught and released 8 brown bullheads and a 21 lb snapping turtle 🐢 with ShopRite extra crunchy canned whole kernel corn and 4 lb test line. Saw Canada geese, mallards, double crested cormorants, great blue heron, crows and a belted kingfisher. Took pics. Caught 23, 21 and 15 lb snapping turtles 🐢 in the lake this month.

That turtle must have taken quite some time to land on 4# test.
There would be a couple good reasons to have a crockpot in their future.
So I don’t catch them again. They ruin the fishing. The fish stop biting when they arrive. A lady told me that she saw a snapper attack a goose at the lake. They may attack little children and dogs 🐩.

No, they usually don’t fight in the murky water if they don’t see me. I just reel them in, wade out into the lake with my knee boots, then grab their tail. Getting my hook back is very dangerous.
what size hook u use with the corn?

I never tried to remove the hook. I just cut off the head with the hook in. Like all ctitters, they are better eating if properly blead out. Apparently, there are limits and seasons in some places now. I have not been in snapper country for years.
I highly recommend snapper soup! Yum !!
