How is the fishing for trout on the lake this time of year. Thinking of taking my jon-boat out and trolling for trout. Your experience is greatly wanted. I am an East coast transplant. So your season is backwards from what I am used to
Be on the water at sunrise, troll a cowbell with a wedding ring spinner behind it. Tip with a worm, catch trout. Tip with maggots and catch Kokanee. Put rapala on behind cowbell and catch trout. Troll out along the VA hospital treed coastline. About 40 yards from shore. Good luck

Went there yesterday. Windy and slow- 1 fish. Wind laid down at 1 and the bite started. Water temp 49.5 surface 45-44 down through water column. 3 of us caught 8 keepers and lost at least that many. All were caught no deeper than say 20’.
Small 3” green gold Rapala killed it but also had hits on blue hoochie, pink hoochie, black Wooly bugger with smiley blade
Trolled 1.5 mph. Everything had a small dodger 18” ahead
East end of lake in front of condos in 80’ water

Nice job, Bum. Glad you guys were able to get out. What device are you using to monitor the temperature in the water column? Tried using the fish hawk but couldn’t get it to work right for some reason so I returned it… Kokanee like it at 54*…

Nice catch. Never tried those colors, except for the rapala. When successful used chrome and brass cowbell, Now I can add more gear 👍😁
Thanks mooseman. Much appreciated. What is a cow bell?
It’s a piece of thin cable with a rudder and blades that spin. Different lengths available. I like the 4 blade ones. Go on line and you’ll find pics of them. Good luck tight lines

Forgot to mention long line them if they're right on top and the boat spooks em. I put just enough weight to keep the dodger below the surface. Good luck
Thanks mooseman
Much appreciated.
Tight lines to you also
Here is what they look like, different lengths different colors. Good luck tight lines
Thank u again for all your help. It is much appreciated

Good morning Dave. Used the Fish hawk a buddy gave me. It seems to work pretty well. I understand the batteries are sealed and good for 6 years? Use it til it dies I guess.
If you use these , use a minimum 8# test line. They pull pretty hard 👍
I fish all west side lakes the same. I Longline. I use a chain swivel, 3 foot of 17 lb. mono, a 4 inch dodger and 9 inches of 5 pound leader from dodger to fly. I use a big enough split shot near the chain to keep everything under water adjusting size to go deeper. I rarely fish below 15 feet.On the working end, my most consisting catcher is a size 8 wooly bugger with olive sparkle chenille body, black hackle and black tail with a few strands of pearl crystal flash. Later in the year, I may go up to a size 4. If I get no bites, I add a chartreuse bead and silver scale smile blade in front of the fly. I troll slower than most people. .8 to 1.2 Mph. I on occasion, get outfished, but I take that in exchange for feeling the bite and fight. My only consistant exception, is trolling with a fly rod, floating line with a split shot 22 inches above the same fly set ups. (no dodger).
