The Rest of the Story

The Rest of the Story

We had breakfast and had packed the night before. Jean backed our SUV up against the curb so it would be easier to load. Since I am almost helpless, when she was ready, I pushed a walker out to the vehicle. She intended to help me get into the car.
Well, I should have mentioned the weather, it was cold around 50 degrees and raining hard enough to get one wet in just a few minutes. Have you ever tried to get a secure hold on a SUV from the back? There are few if any secure hand holds.
I try to find a hand hold somewhere and at the same time negotiate stepping down with my left leg being quite useless. I lose my grip, fall mostly backwards and wind up setting down on the curb, in the rain and in a cold puddle of water! I have to remain there for about 30 minutes until the EMS finally arrives to help me. Thank God for them! Jean has found and gave me an umbrella to help protect me from the falling rain. I am not totally soaked, but there are parts of me that are. Finally, I am assisted in getting erect and in the car. I now depended upon the car’s heater and bun warmer to dry me on our two-hour trip to Waco.
Since the residence of independent living where we live in Round Rock also has a place in Waco that doesn’t charge for guests from another associated facility, I was able to change and be presentable for the meetings. We attend a day and half of meetings of the Texas Folklife Association which we have just joined. There were some excellent stories told and we had a grand time. I did meet a number of friends I already knew.
At the end of the meeting, they were going to have a photo of all the past presidents, and I thought the entire audience were going to be in the photo. The organization has been in existence for 104 years. I knew the incoming president, so Jean and I both are likely have a story published in their annual book of members’ stories.
We are very fortunate to be able to stay in Houston, Waco, or any other place that this corporation has an independent living facility, and at no cost for room and board. I do not receive any compensation for this but I thought it worth mentioning. If it is of any interest to anyone, send me a P.M. and I will forward contact information.
If I have insulted anyone when I was ribbing you up north about your ‘snow covered’ country, I apologize, I have been duly chastised. Just Sayin…RJS

Thank God you are alright!!!
Falls like that can go back really fast. I have experience with that, but no advice to avoid it.
I had just returned from Wisconsin on Easter Sunday at 3 am. There was still 4' of snow up there and hard as concrete. I could walk on top of it easily without sinking down into it.
But I made it for Church.
He is definitely RISEN indeed!!!
God Bless, Bob.
