Do you also have larger cats in the area? Generally you want to use the smallest hook that you can get away with.
Are you using worms, cut bait, liver, or dough?

The lake I’m going to tommorrow has only bullhead as far as I know the other lake I fish has bullheads and big channels I’ll be using worms chicken liver slim Jim and maybe some bluegill

Bring a variety of sizes. If your bait is being stolen without hooking up, try a smaller hook size

Right on, you can actually catch them on crappie hooks; so I'd assume the smaller ones would be safe

Big fan of Circle Hooks less get deep in throat and less kill rate.
I always like the treble hooks with the springs in a to hold the bait cuz I would make my own dough balls I kept all the fish I caught and ate them around here they're good eating
