I’ve been so very fortunate in my life to have been around many fishing mentors in my life. At a young age my dad was my mentor and I miss him every day. As I grew older I met a man and we fished a lot together and he taught me techniques in freshwater fishing and still think of him as my mentor.
When I moved my family to Port Aransas on the Texas coast I was very fortunate to meet a gentleman through his brother-in-law and was invited to go fishing with him. At that time I knew a little bit about fishing saltwater but after fishing with “Totsy”a Few times he helped me step up my game. He was born here and fished his whole life to make a living to feed his family. He fished up to four trips a day when he was guiding in the 80’s and guided until Alzheimer’s took over him 4 years ago. This gentleman taught me more about saltwater fishing and life than you’ll ever know. He was my mentor.
I went to his memorial service yesterday and was among a very large group of people attending. You could see the love everyone had for him. He always had a smile unless some tourist tried to crowd him while guiding a party fishing then he could be heard a half a mile away letting the intruder have it.
This photo is on his card I picked up at the service. I want to share this prayer with y’all. Thanks
