Launched out of Smallwood State Park (Mattawoman Creek) at sunrise. Water temp 53, warmed up to 55 later in the day. Incoming tide all morning. Found a few bass on wood and along rip rap. Most came on a jerk bait worked on a jerk, long pause, jerk cadence. Caught another on a chatter bait in craw color. Hooked a decent snakehead (9.28 pounds) on that same chatter bait in less that 1 FOW. That one came home for a date with the grease. A half day of fishing produced 4 keeper LM and the snake. Expect the bite to turn on as the water temps rise and they get serious about spawning.
Yay ! Catch and kill those Snakeheads !
Sure, but I strongly doubt we will ever eradicate them, now that they have established such a thriving and expanding population. I wonder if we’ll ever know what their impact will be to these waters. But I will say it is some of the best fish meat one can find.
