Hi
Has anyone fished this reservoir? I drove by on 17 and the levels are way up. Any tips for a first timer to the lake?

I grew up in the Bay area, Santa Clara and East San Jose to the exact. We used to go fishing at Lexington all the time when they would plant it. But there's a lot of bass catfish and panfish in there. There are so many lakes all throughout the Bay area especially South San Jose Foothills

I used to fish Lexington all the time. Was a great bass lake and trout fishing was pretty good too. I don't think they are stocking the trout any more now though. I was told years ago that they stocked fingerling bass in there as well. Never verified if that was true or not. I used to fish from my boat. They don't allow gas motors so only electric trolling motors. It's been about 5 or 6 years since I last fished there from a boat. Water levels where not high enough to use the ramp with the drought. There is some shore access but no to all areas of the lake. There is a park on the back side of the lake if you drive around to it, that has some shore access. My favorite spots to fish for bass where the flooded tree groves in the spring near the road you drive in on and north of the fire station near where the lake comes next to highway 17. Also, there is a cove, only accessible by boat, that is just south of the fire station. Was cool going to the back of that cove. felt like you were deep in jungle somewhere. Always saw baby bass in the back of the cove but never really caught anything past about halfway back. From the mouth of that cove to about halfway back was always good for bass. We used to call it firemen's cove. I miss fishing that lake. Always had fairly low fishing pressure except for along the dam and along the launch ramp parking lot would sometime get fairly crowded with trout fishermen.

Yes, Lexington is a good water recreation reservoir. But I can only speak to what it was like years ago too. No data recently although it seems that it would be good except that it has been so low for years and it was drained to fix the dam wall - I assume killing what fish there was in there. I've used it to swim in too. Curiously being so close to the really busy highway 17, I've never seen a ranger, and very few fisherfolk.
BTW, there is a town at the bottom. It was forced abandoned and flooded to create the reservoir. It's been said that it is a haunted site. Maybe scared the fish out too.

I read about the town that's submerged below. U said they emptied it to fix the dam wall, by any chance do you know when this happened.

I recall it was 2008. The town was called Alma. I wasn’t kidding about the haunted part. My friend who overlooks Lexington has lost two dogs there. Both swimmers. And on bombers moons several employees at the Cats restaurant claim to have seen them. Of course, that was after they closed the place up. Loch Lomond is a better fishing bet.

Yes, Lexington is a good water recreation reservoi... (show quote)

I never had any ghostly experiences all the times I fished there. Also, I wanted to mention, even when they drain the lake to work on the dam, there was still a lot of water in the lake. You just couldn’t see it unless you drove around Alba road. I think there was plenty of water to keep
The bass population alive. Now that it is full again, I’m going to have to out you there this spring and see if the bass fishing is still any good.
