If you head west on Jefferson from Elizabeth Park for about 5 minutes, you'll come to the Detroit River Wildlife Refuge. It's a small and fairly easy to miss entrance on your left. It's a few hundred feet past the railroad crossing.
There is a 700' pier where you can load up on walleye and silvers. I hope to be there this upcoming weekend!

You can catch walleye pretty much anywhere on the river. Anywhere there is access to The Riverwalk. I fish from just west of Belle Isle down to just past the Ambassador bridge (at foot of W. Grand Blvd.). Access might be tricky while finishing up park construction. Try the street 1 blk. W. of the Blvd. and turn left where it ends. Fish anywhere in the park or go east past to where the parking lot/boat launch is.

I've fished for walleye and silvers pretty much everywhere you've mentioned. I haven't figured out walleye yet, but I see people getting the 5/day limit all the time. Various colors of plastic/rubber jigs are almost the universal choice of everyone. Best times are say 10PM til sunrise, but you can do fine during the daylight as well.

Went to the Detroit River Wildlife Refuge this afternoon but didn't catch anything. There was just a few people fishing but they didn't have any luck either. Going to give it another try next week.

I hear walleye are already being caught in the Trenton area. I hope to get to the pier at the Detroit River Wildlife Refuge. Have not heard anything but I imagine they're being caught all along the Detroit River from Wyandotte east to Belle Isle. Walleye typically fade out in late April to early May when the silver bass take over.

Last year I was in Trenton one weekend and everyone was catching walleye. Next weekend, nothing but silvers.

From shore, silvers are definitely more plentiful and easier to catch.

I may be in Trenton, hopefully the 30th or 31st. I'll be sure to report back.

If you like catfish, Macomb next to the DTE plant is always a great spot.

Good Luck
I hear walleye are already being caught in the Tre... (show quote)

Where were they fishing from exactly, in trenton when everybody was catching walleyes from the shore?

Welcome to the forum BF. I can’t help with your question but hopefully someone from your area will be able to help also check with local tackle shops or your state fish and game. I get a wealth of information that way. Thanks for the great picture. I hope next one will have a 10# walleye in it.🎣🎣😁

Check with the dip net bait and tackle in ecorse

I'm guessing it was just the time of day you were there.
I heard again today that people were catching walleye from the pier.
Just after sunrise until maybe 10A was the last time I was there and saw catches.

That must be my problem. I didn't get over there until 1:00 pm. I'm not a morning person but I guess I better push myself to get up early sometime if I'm going to get a walleye. I caught a walleye a couple years ago while fishing for silver bass. It was 18 inches. Hopefully I can catch a few bigger than that this Spring. Thanks again for the fishing tips.

Seems like most people say a few hours after sunset until sunrise is best.

Are the walleye in the Detroit river yet? Is the Belanger Park boat launch open or is there another launch that is safe and has good hours during the week? Last year I used the St Jean boat ramp a couple of times but they closed at like 730 pm. Don't want to drive all the way to detriot unless the fish are in. thanks for the info.

Yes, they are. Definitely up as far as Wyandotte. Don't know about the Belanger Part launch. You might want to check the launch at Riverside Park just east of the Blvd., under the Ambassador bridge.
