Went with the fishing partner, I think last week, to Lake Houston. We put in right at sunrise and started hitting his mapped structure. I used a 3/16th blue and chartreuse jig and a 3/16th white and chartreuse jig. I didn’t weigh any of them but the two biggest fish were 15” long. We guessed they were close to being two pounders. We fished until the wind picked up to about 10 to 15 mph and called it a day. Yup, that’s me.

Man, that leaves no doubt...things ARE bigger in Texas! On average those slabs are twice the size of the ones up here in VA, at least the ones I've caught over the years.

DC, those 15”, 16” Crappie are not the norm. 11” thru 14” are the norm. I catch a lot of 10”, which is legal but I don’t keep them. I imagine there are some up to 18”, but I’ve never seen one that big. About four or five years ago, during the spawn, I caught a few that were over two pounds. I had a kayak then and I could get real close in the shallows. I caught almost two limits. I’ll never do that again. I wasn’t thinking about the fillet part.
