Fishing on the Susquehanna River below the Conowingo Hydroelectric Dam. Showing a few pics from the past two years. Caught many varieties and sizes of fish, i.e., stripers, carp, eels, and blue, channel, flathead catfish. Nice place to fish.
WowDV, talk about memory lane. Around 50 years ago where those guys are standing in the water used to be lined up with rental row boats.
Did my share of Cat fishing there at night and would stand in the row boats to get cast out further. However when those sirens go off best get our butts to shore. Now and than a boat would break loose from the sudden current and off they would go.
Thanks for the pics and the memories.
You are welcome. Wow row boats, now no boats aloud within hundreds of yards of the dam. It is great to hear memories like yours. I spoke with fisherman that told me they fished in the catwalks over the water and had to lower nets on ropes to the water to hoist fish up. I saw in person much larger fish caught than the ones in the pics. That place has a lot of history.

Yep row boats with no oars. The person running the rentals put them away at night. Thus why we got our butts out of there when the siren went off.
I forgot about the catwalk. Did that as well. Never did fish the other side of the dam, had enough good times on the lower end. Plus nowhere to build a fire up there.
Campfire, fishing with just night crawlers and no worries back then. Doesn't get much better.

No boats have been allowed in the dam pool since 9/11 Bob. Have a 400 yard no boat zone.

Wonder what happens if someone comes close to the dam.

The day I was there, there was a very pleasant, uniformed young lady with a gun on her hip that watched every boat out there. The launch ramp most u see d is only about a mile downstream.

Interesting Jim, i would hope she has a rifle for a long range shot. Pistol at 300 - 400 yards not to effective if there was actually a attempt to take out the dam.
I just may have to go down memory lane this year and take a trip there. Ummm note to self take fishing gear.

Definitely let me know when you do. I love fishing the dam, river and Deer Ceek for shad on a fly. Anything from big flathead and blue cats to stripers to bluegills. And don't forget the snake heads. If you come up I95 I'll give you the route inches back way from exit 109.

I need to scout out the area since its been awhile. So let me do that in the next week or so and I can reference a meeting spot that way.
For bait I caught 99% of the fish (excluding stripers) by using medium or large shrimp that I purchased from the frozen section of a grocery store. The shrimp were already peeled and deveined, pulled the tail off, hooked them on a size 1/O, 24 inches of 20# braid leader to a swivel, 20# mainline mono, used a 2 oz barrel slide sinker above the swivel on the mainline, 5% of the time used a 4 oz barrel sinker.
Saw nightcrawlers, shiners, homemade catfish/carp bait used that also caught many fish with many different types of sinkers and setups. Wish you two good luck, you two sound like seasoned fisherman and should do well.
Great pics...that does bring back many memories above and below the Conowingo damn. Grow up in the Oxford,Nottingham, Rising Sun and Colora until I moved to Tennessee 21 years ago. Makes me want to hook the boat up and take a trip up to wet a line.
