Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to know if anyone are catching walleye yet in the Detroit River? If so, where? What part of the river?
And specifically, anyone fishing from the pier at the Detroit River Wildlife Refuge?

Thanks!

rstringer,
Walleye are in river all the time. Reports from another forum I belong to are saying a few fish being caught.. but river is muddy and cold, 34-35°, as expected this time of year. No reports of ice coming down that I seen… very cold and tough conditions…I fished it every year for 40 years or so until I moved away..

I'm figuring April 10 and about 2weeks of prime fishing. Just my opinion.

Hi, with spring break happening this week, I'd like to take my son to the Detroit River and try some fishing. Is there any way/place to fish from shore? I'd like to explore the area before dragging my boat down.
Thanks for any advice or help.

There is a pier in Wyandotte, Bishop Park. Water is about 20’ deep there.

There is also a new pier just South of Trenton, at the Wild life refuge, it is about 4-5 ft deep there, and it is right downstream of the Edison plant warm water discharge, and the females spawn right in that bay..

Great. Thanks for that help. My son and I always have a great time fishing together regardless of whether we catch fish. It helps to know a couple places to get lines in the water and spend time together. I know a lot of dads on here get how valuable that is and I'm glad I found this forum to help us get out more.

I've fished for walleye starting just west of Belle Isle behind the UAW Training Center and the hotel next to it. It's great fishing anywhere along the riverwalk. Also behind the main post office going west to 12th street. Also down at the foot of the Blvd and next to the fireboat dock.

I'm hoping to get to the pier at the Det. River Wildlife Refuge in Trentor (mentioned above). I'm still trying to figure out how to be successful with walleye. But, I've seen people getting their limits the last two springs.

Good Luck!

Thanks. That'll be us... trying to figure it out.
Thinking we'll only have a couple days worth standing around in this week, but we'll give it a try- my son is all excited.
