In my life I’ve watched my Great Grandfather, and both Grandmothers fall to this horrible affliction. I found this article and figured many of my stage buddies would find it as informative as I did. My fathers mothers condition deteriorated the fastest and I could see the direct corolation between that and her hearing loss. She wouldn’t keep the hearing aids my dad bought her because they were to EXPENSIVE. That was BS no amount of money was to much to pay for grandmas well being. Please read the article below and take it to heart. Anything you can do to ward off Dementia is worth doing!!!!!!

Thank you J. My grandfather passed away with Alzheimer's. Very sad. John Henry just sat there waiting for his beloved Gertrude to show up Not knowing that she had passed almost 20 years earlier. He passed at 92. Him with my girls Jennifer (oldest) and Samantha.

It’s kind of a long read meant to mention if you don’t feel like reading it all skip to the 4 things to do that are at the end of the article. That’s the important part!

informative article but keep it in context in regards to hearing loss it says "Globally, hearing impairment is believed to account for about 8% of dementia." and with up to 50% of older individuals experiencing hearing loss there are more people getting dementia who don't have hearing loss than who do so I am not sure hearing loss on it's own is that much of a threat of getting dementia. I would like to see a study that focuses on isolation of any cause be it lack of mobility, illness, or sensory losses such as eye sight or hearing. Of course correlation and causation are two different things and not necessarily related. As far as your comment about being expensive unfortunately for many the choice may come down to being able to afford to stay in their homes, afford to pay the bills and prioritizing other medicines or medical procedures over the price of hearing aids and then there are a lot of people that hearing aids really don't help that much if at all.
I am thinking staying connected and interacting with others would do as much good as hearing aids for slowing down dementia which is another advantage of being part of a discussion forum like this is so important. Isolation is not good at any age.

Hey J. Thanks for that article. Was very enlightened about the hearing loss. Proves to me even more how important it is for me to make it more of a point to wear my hearing aids. I went and put them on right after the read.

I’m not saying the hearing loss caused the dementia. I’m saying the hearing loss and lack of addressing it caused the disease to progress much faster. I witnessed it with my own eyes since both grandmothers had dementia at the same time. Both had hearing loss one had hearing aids and the other refused them. The one without got way worse way faster. Not to mention her doctor is the one that gave me the info.

Tight lines

Neither of my grandmothers were isolated at all. I have a big family and they were always around. My non hearing aid grandmother always lived with her children and their children. She was very engaged.

My Mom had dementia. It progressed over several years, and when she died it occurred to me that we'd lost her not all at once but a little at a time.

I just hope that it isn't genetic!

I believe there are many factors that play I to it one of which is genetics but there are people who have had it with out any family history and those with a family history who never ended up with it. I guess the sad truth is everyone is going g to die from something and we don't have a lot to say about it

Good thing that I like my new hearing aids. Better than my old ones. Makes a lot easier to use them.

I agree. These are the first ones that I've really worn and I've had hearing aids for probly 15+years.
Have worn these for the last 3 years and they do really help.
