I myself am trying to learn techniques for catching walleye. I have failed time and time again on reservoirs. I have one hot spot on a river but I just can’t seem to figure them out in the man made lakes. I’ll get lucky here and there but nothing consistent. Please post any information if you learn some things. I’m fishing in Indiana waters.

I live in Michigan and have fished for wall eyes using a bottom bouncer and also a heavy jig with a night crawler attached to it. Let the jig hit the bottom ( line goes slack ) then raise the jig up, let it go back down and keep on doing it that way.

I've had my best success with either a bottom bouncer trolling a spinner with a slow death hook threaded with a night crawler or trolling Flicker Shad's. Make sure you are varying your trolling speed to find what they are looking for. I typically troll the bottom bouncers at 0.8-1.2 mph but troll the crank baits at 1.8 to 2 mph. Speed can make a difference. Good luck and let us know what's working. Tight lines!

Do you let just enough line out to make close to a 45 degree angle or do you let a lot of line out with bottom bouncers? Also do you troll with multiple rods or one? What’s your favorite colors during which times/clarity?

I live in Cheyenne, WY and most of the walleye I catch fall pray to jointed shad raps (JSR sizes 4, 5 and 7) in perch color, trolled at about 3 mph. I know a couple fishermen that also use JSRs but they use fire tiger color. You might also try curly tail grubs in chartreuse or white, either trolled (about 1mph) or cast and retrieved with a jigging action.
One more thing, I normally start fishing very shallow (4 feet or less) and work deeper as I troll until I find the fish.
