Hey stagers,
I have a idea for some fishing jugs and would welcome your input.
My idea is to use 20 oz Mt Dew bottle ( high visibility). My wife does sewing for people and has lots of small spools called bobbins. I was thinking that if I wrapped the fishing line on the bobbin and only pulled out enough line needed and then screwed on the cap. I could set the hook depth as needed. When not in use the line can be rewrapped around the bobbin and hook and all could be stored in the bottle?
I dought that this is an original idea, but I've never seen it before.
Should I need to attach a set line the Anker line can be wrapped around the bottle. With the Anker fully secured in the bottle.
Your opinions and/or experience with this setup would be greatly appreciated.

you didn't say how you were going to attach the bobbin to the inside of the bottle.

Good point sorry πŸ‘
The bobbin will be free floating inside of bottle. That way it can be easily removed for rewinding

if it's not attached what prevents the line from simply spooling off?

Securely screwing on the cap. Pinching the line between the cap and bottle.

Ask your wife about using her sewing gear.

Didn't think of that. Lucky for me she is sitting beside me right now. She said I could use some and asked what size?
Opps didn't know they came in different sizes? Lucky for me she is a wonderful wife and will help me figure out what size bottle opening would work out best.

I believe the spool will roll around inside the bottle and make a birdnest unless you put painters tape around the spool. What I use down here is part of a pool noodle 16" long. I wrap the hook end 3' is sufficiant because most fish feed upwards, and when done wrap it up and stick the hook in the noodle. The weight end 10-15' with a 3/4 oz lead, wrap it and stick the weight in the noodle when done. This works real well for eater size fish. Still have to chase some of them. Hope that helps.

Sounds like a good idea. If it works get a patent. In the 60s I got a man who worked with propane to fix up a pipe that 3’ tall with adapters to fit a 20 pound bottle uof propane and also a propane lantern. He had never seen this, now you can find them in the stores. I could have made money if I had patented the idea. Hindsight is better than foresight.

Your suggestion is a wonderful idea πŸ’‘
Hadn't thought about the bobbin rolling around.
So I guess problem solved. I believe I'll go with this setup.
Thanks πŸ‘ Bigmark!

When I was 16 years old I made a magic device showing two small boxes totally empty and handed them out for examination. I put one box inside the other and turned it upside down.100 one dollar bills come rolling out. After showing them empty again a continuous stream of paper came out creating a mound of paper on the floor 3 foot wide and two feet tall. All this was produced from 2 small boxes, one inside the other. About 1/2 the size of a shoe box. I demonstrated it at a large magic convention and a fellow magician asked if he could use it in his act. I told him he could have it. I could always make another one.
Sometime later I found out that he patoned the idea as his own. Now if I wanted to use my design and idea I have to buy it from his company.
The International Brotherhood of Magicians President ripped him a new A Hole for violating our code of ethics on sharing our ideas with each other, but there was nothing he could do legally.
Always wondered how much I would have made of I had placed the paton.

Bell. If you fill the bottle with "great stuff" and when it gardens up you can scrape out enough at the neck of the bottle so the spool fits snug. That way it won't unspool. Hope you can understand what I'm trying to say.

This will also help if you get a leak in the bottle .

C.B. ,this is pretty interesting stuff and here's a tale of how it might pay to get a patent...

Back in my high school days,in the 1960's, my buddy Mike, actually put mayonaise from a glass jar into a plastic squeeze container,he send it off to Hellman's, packed in dry ice.
They wrote him back that this was an "impractical idea",but we think they later used it to make millions...maybe more.
Well, that's the story as we like to tell it.

You will have to be continually checking the condition of your line. The abrasion from twisting the cap back on and from the line constantly rubbing on the edge of said cap while it’s baited out. Other than those items it should work ok. Try it and see!!
