I've been having issues with it bogging down on me after 4-5 minutes. I've changed out the fuel lines, new bulb, fuel pump, and fuel filter. it starts as it should, but still boggs down after a bit, so friday i will be putting in a new impeller and a new thermostat to see if it's just an over heating issue. hope so, I'm dying to get out on this spawn.....

PB... what brand/yr motor. A lot of folks here have dealt with motor problems. Someone might be able to help.

This may sound too obvious...but is your tank the style with the small air vent screw in the cap that helps prevent airlock and potential fuel starvation? If that screw is closed during operation the result can be what you are describing. I have had that happen on a perfectly good working outboard...and then remembered about opening that little screw.

It's just a thought....

Check out the pickup filter in the tank Banks. I pulled mine out a few years ago and it was covered in a jelly like substance. After I cleaned it out it ran fine.

I have a 9.8 Banks and had that issue. It would be fine at low speed but shut off after a minute or so at high speed. Turned out mine was the impeller

this is a pic of my tank. not sure what the bigger line is for, smaller one is which goes to the motor obviously, and then the electrical wiring area which i don't know what that's about.

Throw some seafoam in your gas tank and run it. Put in 1 ounce of seafoam per 1 gallon of gasoline. I bet that will help make it run better.

I have a 2001 90hp Merc 2 stroke. I had the same problem. Had the stator replaced. Cost about 1200 to get it done since I didn’t know what a stator was.

The bigger line is the vent line. It allows air to come out when you fill the tank, and go back in when you suck gas out. The electrical connections are for the sending unit (float) that tells your gas gage what the level is.

If you disconnect the fuel line, and break the jam nut loose, you should be able to unscrew the pickup fitting from the tank.
