I read an article written by a guide that was making the case for the fact that barbless hooks are not the bad thing they are cracked up to be, and it sounded very credible.

They were making the case that as you have a big hard fighting fish, that the barb tears a much bigger hole as the fish fights than a clean barbless hook. In my experience, as is the author's perspective, I have landed as many fish with barbless hooks as I do with barbed hooks...keep the pressure on and the hook will stay in.

My point being (no pun intended) that barbless hooks are not going to be the cause of losing fish.

I found a yellow jointed Bomber Long A-16 with barbless hooks on it on the Barnegat Inlet north jetty and caught many fish with it. Barbless is much safer than barbed.

Also easier to remove from wood. To each his own 👍

I have yet to try them, but will this year to see if I notice a difference.

You've gotta hate the way barbed treble hooks are so hard to get out of a nylon net, you get a barb out only to have another get stuck

My glastron has carpet n it's a pain when a hook gets stuck in it also.
Since I release almost everything anyway barbless won't be a problem for me 👍

Barbless hooks will save a lot of wear and tear on your first aid kit ...if you get my drift.

we can only use barbless hooks for salmon and I lose very few by comeing off the hook but maybe it is the brand or style or size of barbless hook that makes the difference

I think as long as you keep pressure on them it works OK 👍

I know when I fish lighter tackle off down riggers and play the fish longer I lose more,,,when I troll lead with a release and use my " meat pole" and really bring them to the boat I land more of them,,not as much fun but more fillets in the freezer or on my neighbors' grills!!! my favorite way to fish for them is mooching,,gotta use barb less circle hooks,,seems like the circle hooks stay attached pretty well once they ate hooked and that's pretty light tackle so a bunch of fun,,,now I'm Jonesin to get back out there,,,,
