I use both fly, spinning and bait fishing for trout. You have learn skills for each method.
It’s funny but it also illustrates the I’m better than you attitude many FlyFisherman exhibit. I like catching I’m not caught up in how I get it done.

There certainly is some elitism among flyfishers, which I admit to occasionally. There is a lot of finesse involved in fly casting, but to properly present a plug in worm etc demands equal ithough different skills.

I know you meant no harm! But you know what I’m talking about if you’re into fly fishing. Most of the guys I know who fly fish look down at us “meat slingers.” As they call all non fly fisherman. To each their own. I plan to learn to fly fish one day. And maybe I’ll never go back to slinging meat but if I do I won’t look down on those who do. Not saying you do just saying many do!

I agree J....funny but also has that twist that fly fishing can be guilty of. For some reason, when it comes to fishing...there can be a tendency for "elite" fly folks to think they are at the pinnacle of the sport/hobby/recreation of fishing...when actually it is merely just another way of presenting a bait/lure to a fish. I suspect that those same people, if they participate in other sports or hobbies, take that mentality with them in those places too. It's most likely a personality trait that spills into everything they do. They are still great people...just a little obsessed about how they participate in the awesome sport of fishing.
As an avid fly fisherman myself, I try very hard NOT to ever let that poisonous mindset corrupt me. I also happen to enjoy fishing in just about every other way imaginable besides fly fishing. To me, satisfaction comes from just being out and enjoying Nature. The way I happen to choose to fish on any given day is a decision I make before heading out....
By the way...I know that cougarbaby did not mean any harm by it...I completely understand the humorous side of it.

I too know it was a joke. I laughed!! Hope Cougar wasn’t offended by my response it wasn’t meant to offend. Just pointing out a prevalent attitude. I have a step brother and brother in law that exclusively fly fish. They have that attitude. Sorry for projecting!!
