Requesting advice on general area to begin looking for Crappie (Sac-a-lait) on Toledo Bend
Hello: My name is Jeff (from Opelousas). I have a close friend who lives on the east bank (in Louisiana) of Toledo Bend just north of LA Hwy 6. She doesn't fish since she doesn't have a boat but told me just a couple of days ago that she has been noticing an increasing number of trucks with boat trailers at the landings when driving by. My main target fish is Crappie (or as we call them: Sac-A-Lait lol). Do you know if they are in pre-spawn or have they moved into full on spawn yet? I plan on going up there in 2 -3 weeks to spend a little time with my lady and lots of time on the lake, so any information on where to begin searching with mega side scan (then dial in with Live Scope) and / or depths, contours, etc would be greatly appreciated. I don't expect you to give up your hot spots. I wouldn't either. Just a general area to begin searching would be appreciated due to the size of the reservoir with little time for searching. Also, I'm 61 years old and haven't fished Toledo Bend since I was 14 years old, so I have no clue where to begin. The only advice I have received is to look for brush piles, which could be time consuming and I don't like to intrude on others. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day! Jeff Remember, a bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work! LOL

The chicken coop at mid lake near Milam Tx is always good March and April
Thanks, I know where Mid Lake Campground is, so I'm guessing "The Chicken Coop" will show on my nav maps. If not, the cove will still give me a place to start. Thanks for the help.

We stay at Holly Park Marina, my friend lives overlooking the coop
It is named that because there were chicken 🐔 farms there before the lake was built, so I have been told
Ha-ha Well I may not catch any fish but I've already learned something new. Thanks for the trivia...
Welcome to the stage. I get a lot of info off the La. F&G website. There are many sunken reefs in TB. Find the one that is close to where you be going, and that would be a start.
Thanks, I found two sites. One for Texas and one for Louisiana. I was aware they sunk old rigs offshore but I didn't know they did it on fresh water lakes also. This will definitely be places I will check out. Thanks again!
