Caught a redfish without a spot in Sykes Creek, Merritt Island, FL. This is supposedly rare.

That may be a large Crocker. Same family but with out spots. But as you said, it is rare for reds to be spotless. My reason to say it may be a Crocker is the fin color. Redfish usual have pink to red. Whether it’s a red or Crocker it is a great catch with very similar taste. Enjoy.

Double check that. The coloration is that of a Red Drum but without the spot. Croakers have yellowish fins.

Sure looks like a croaker to me. The head, eye placement and mouth don't look like a channel bass (also called red drum). I've caught plenty during my lifetime of fishing east coast Florida, mostly from Daytona Beach down to Haulover Canal.
