Dam water
Alabama Fishing

With the rain from last week I figured the dam would be releasing some excess but I did not expect this. I could hear the plunging water from the Rockpile parking lot. I zoomed in to get the intensity of it. It's the biggest release of water I've seen in the months we've been here. Did not do any fishing but did see a couple hearty fellas trying their luck.
Was there 3 weeks ago fishing with a pal. Several gates were closed while we were there and I was thoroughly impressed by how fast the water level dropped in an incredible short amount of time

Impressive pics Tom, wonder what determines what gate to open.

We have a Dam structure similar to what you show. ( Conowingo ) Sure don't want to be in the water near bye when they open them up.

The where comes up just as fast as it goes down when they open those gates. At Conowingo, if you're wading downstream you have about 5 minutes to get out of the way

Back in the day Jim, I fished right at the Dam. They sound that horn and you best be hitting high ground.

At one time there were row boats for rent within 100 yards of the Dam. We use to sit in them to get the line out further. Boy did those row boats ever shift fast when that water came through.

For security at the dam, you're not allowed closer than 400 yards in a boat. You can still fish right at the tie now and you are right. I was there one day early summer and the horn blew to open more generating turbines up. Water came up a foot in ten minutes. Now if they open some bypass gates it's going to come up a lot faster. That's what's open in those photos.
