Relatively new to fly fishing and was gonna go on the river tomorrow but is it bad for the reels to get wet/ rained on?

Nope, unless it’s a crap reel

No. They are designed to get wet and will not rust. Don’t worry at all about rain. I love fishing rainy days. Not sure if it’s clouds or rain but I’ve had some truly great fishing days in light to moderate rainfall.
The enemy of reels is dirt/grit/sand so don’t plop the reel down onto a sandbar on the river, or if you do, rinse in clear water, maybe pop off the spool and rinse separately if anything sounds or feels gritty.
I’ll also try to rinse the reel after fishing ponds since the water is sometimes pretty dirty and can leave a coat of slime on the reel and fly line.
It’s a good idea to periodically wipe down the fly line with a clean damp rag no matter where you fish.

I'm up-voting Jasper2006's answer here. That answer pretty much explains everything I was going to write about the question asked here.
Remember too, that your fly line can naturally degrade due to environmental issues like UV rays, excessive heat within your chosen vehicle, and other naturally occurring circumstances... like dust and dirt, age, humidity, and so on. When I am done fishing, I personally take my reel off the rod and keep it in the cute little black cloth bag I got when I originally purchased it. Thank you for that, Orvis... ;)
Best Regards and Good Luck!

Nope it won’t hurt a thing most reels are made to get a little wet and after every fishing trip at sea I alway spray my rod and reel down with fresh water to remove the sea salt left on the rod and reel.
