Do y’all play a fish out and fight him for a while?
Do y’all play a fish out and fight him for a while or try to hurry up and get him in the boat as fast as you can?

get them in the boat as fast as possible.

That’s what I try to do but some fish seem to still have a lot of fight in them making getting treble hooks out a bad time, I’ve had many a fish catch me lol.

Get a lip grabber for when you’re pulling crankbaits and stuff, and use pliers to pop the hooks out.

Depends on my tackle, and size of the fish. 20lb test and single hook, I'm horsing them to the boat, unless it's an absolute monster. Finesse gear, and I play them out.

Depends on the rod, the size of the line, the strength of the hook. Sometimes you gotta let a fish get tired. When you hook a big one on light tackle you have to take it easy.

I get them in the boat as quickly as the situation and tackle allows. If I'm using a trebled bait, I'll get control of the fish before I put my hands near the hooks. Use pliers and maybe fish grips as needed.

I don't horse largemouth or smallmouth unless it's a megadink. Then it goes skating. I just think it's fun to use light line and drag.

Depends on 3 things for me. Am I fishing a tournament? What bait am I using? How well is the fish hooked? Depending on how I can answer these questions, I will fight the fish differently. If I’m not in a tourney, I love to fight the fish and try to make them jump for me. If I’m in an event, I want the fish in as soon as possible. The mitigating factors are the bait I’m using and how the fish is hooked. A couple of examples....
Crankbaits: all dependent on how the fish is hooked and what size hooks I have to work with. A big 2.5 size squarebill, I might fight harder than say a Shad Rap #5.
Swimbaits: large ones give the fish leverage so I fight them fast. Smaller ones with finesse hooks I will play out.
Frogs: I fight hard and fast nearly all the time.
These are just some examples. The situation always dictates my final decisions. The fish themselves can also change my tactics depending on how they act that specific day.

I use light tackle in lakes and ponds I fish for the fight.

Trout, you don't horse anything with a 6X or 7X tippet. Walleye and salmon and saltwater fish, I'll take my time and enjoy the headshake and the moment. If I'm fishing off a head boat I'll get that fish out of the water ASAP so not to tangle other fishermen/women.
I never bring my catches in green, tire them out first and enjoy the fight
Wear em out, monster carp anyway what a 'never stop fighting' fish.

If I plan on keeping them for a meal I’ll fight them out. When the water temperatures are very warm to hot I can them in and back as soon as possible. The stress and low oxygen levels could kill the fish, esp bigger ones. You may not see them die but it does happen. Cold water temps the survival rate is much greater so you could tire a fish out and release it with no problems.
For salmon/stealhead I have found that if you let the pole do the work and take your time I land more fish. If I try and horse em in often they will pull the hook or head for a snag.
