No way. They are nasty. I do know some people who have eaten them. They all say it’s greasy.

I let them live. They rid the neighborhood of ticks, cockroaches, mice and rats. They don't bother or make any noise either. You catch a squirrel or raccoon , they'll try to bite you and wreck the trap. Opposums just lay there and look at you.
Don't imagine they'd taste very good scavenging and eating all those nasty things.

I've skinned a fee so I do know that the meat would be very fatty. Never had the urge to eat one.

Had an employee once whole hailed from Charon, AL, which is country, and she grew up even farther back in the woods. Her dad cooked one every Thanksgiving. She brought some to work once, and it really wasn’t bad (sweet potatoes may have helped the taste). As noted, it was fatty and it had a gamey taste.

I recall my Grandmother, who was a product of the depression and grew up in the country, talking about eating possum and raccoon, cooking one at least once when I was a little boy (I am now 74). I don’t remember eating any of her’s.

I do remember, and really miss, the hog’s head cheese she made. Some people call it souse. The closest to her’s comes from south LA. I can get it in New Orleans when I visit my daughter and son-in-law.

Tubo, I belonged to a fish and game club that featured every sort of local/regional "game" imaginable @ it's Game Dinners, including Black Bears, Coons, Possums, Groundhogs, Snakes, in addition to the usual game fare.
Nothing in these that I'd eat except to bond with these guys, and just a taste at that. All four mammals listed are fur bearing, so they are of use, but as food, maybe they're an acquired taste, but I'll never acquire it.
My experience: bear & coon, very dark and stringy, unappealing flesh.
... groundhog & possum, fatty almost beyond belief ( OK if parboiled/skimmed for untold hours, and heavily sauced and spiced. ) Made some Korean styled when it was my turn, and it was palatable, if not particularly tasty.
Rattlesnake, OK, but nothing to write home about.
My faves : all game birds as well as deer venison, moose, rabbit, and squirrel ( stewed ).

I had a similar experience. Never discovered anything I liked, other than the "normal" rabbits, venison and squirrels.
