The sun was shining yesterday, the winds were low and the ice is gone. Made about a hundred casts and finally got rewarded. I didn’t weigh it but I’d guess this beauty was about 3.5 lb. Hooray for spring!

It’s always a good day when one of “our” girls can catch a fish like that. Way to go Betts.

The smile says it all Betts. Good day no matter the cast count.

Here is a little formula for your next scale less measurement.

Length = 20” Girth = 15” Weight = (20 * 15 * 15)/800 or 4500/800 = 5.63 pounds.

Nice fish. Well Done, Betts.
Here’s a chart from In-Fisherman that may be helpful in the future.

Plum, that was us thinking alike. I was searching my files while you were posting. The chart I sent obviously doesn’t take girth into account. Still pretty close at 4.5 vs. 5.63.

I have never weighed a fish Jer. When any curiosity peaked I would do the girth thing. Always just posted the length. My BFF and other friends in NC did the same, i guess i just kept it going.

We get set in our ways that some weigh and some measure. But a lot of us eat and all of us enjoy the catch. At least we have that gone for all of us.

Any way is fine by me. It’s a point of reference. Some of us have a “calibrated “ arm. I’ve been guilty of that more than once. Last summer I landed a LMB and told my brother I thought it went 3#. We weighed it at 3.43#, big deal. It’s only necessary to weigh and measure if one is in a tournament to make sure you meet the requirements.
Measure is necessary to meet state law if keeping.
