I have been a lurker on here for 3 years, ever since the pandemic started.
I enjoy reading every night.
So to introduce myself, my dad loved to fish and so my family fished, as a child I loved the rods the reels and especially the lures, I was 5 years old and I would take the reels apart, don’t know if I ever got them back together the right way and when mom said I could have a toy I went straight to the fishing lures, I played with them like they were toys.
Never could fish, they would teach me I would try to cast and the hook would get caught in my pants,
I would cast and the bait would go one way and the hook the other way,
Someone would cast for me with some nasty stinky stuff on the hook and I’d wait there.....
And wait there......
Then someone would reel it in for me to check it, and nothing is on the hook.
We went traveling once to another state to visit an uncle and my grandfather and my mom and the uncle and myself went fishing, I was 5 or 6 maybe,
I caught a fish that my uncle helped me reel in, it was too small to keep, we named the fish Joe, and somehow he marked it and let it go, when I was about 16 my grandpa got a letter from him saying he caught old Joe and was big enough to keep, I thought that was really cool.
Anyway because of my lousy experience catching fish when I was a child, I never cared for fishing, didn’t want anything to do with it, when I was about 50, 51 years old my wife was stressed out from work, some friends invited us to go fishing on their boat, my wife caught 2 crappie I caught 1, we went another time with them and I caught a 4 lb largemouth.
I was hooked and now all I want to do is fish, it’s almost all I can think about , I’m still not very good but I enjoy trying,
Thank you for having me here

Holy Smokes Uncle_T you are just West of some of the best native Trout streams in GA!!

Head East to Ellijay, then work your way South to Dahlonega. Look on any terain map and notice all those little Blue lines. Those are trout streams.

Go to Walmart and buy Ultralight gear. Look for Berkley Cherrywood Ultralight Rod and reel. 4lb test monofilament. and since you like lures grab a couple Panther martin Rooster-tails, Red, yellow, or white.

You need to sneak up on Trout! Cast gently down stream and retrieve steady so you don't drag the bottom. NO Weights.

Then again you could hire a guide. Just look up Trout fishing guides in N. Georgia.

Now if you want to fish for Bass or Panfish (Crappie) then send me a PM and I'll tell you about it.

Tight Lines

Thanks for the information, I’m not going to hire a guide because I’m too cheap, and I would have to have a trout stamp to fish for trout, I’ve never caught a trout so I’m not going to spend the extra money to fish for something I’ve never caught, if I ever catch one it might be a different story.
I do try for bass, any type of bass and panfish I call most of them bluegill even though they are not all bluegill

Fishing is like golf and sex, you don't have to be good at it to enjoy it.

In that case, I recommend Moonshine and quarter sticks of Dynamite. Heckuva lot of fun!
Just kidding.

Bass - Green Pumpkin colored plastics.
Crappie - Worms under a Bobber.

Have Fun.
