Leader length ?

I want to do some trolling with the kayak and have put on a popping cork for trolling from spot to spot and casting at each location. Average water depth in my fishing spots is 2' - 6' and targeting trout until the stripers are legal again. Question is what length for the leader is recommended?

Salt leaders can range from 5-12". These types are pre-fabricated at your local bait&tackle, Wal-Mart, academy sporting goods etc.

Tie direct line to float. I use 4'from float to shrimp. Now if I'm line to leader I used 6' min.
