Nothing in the surf right now. Normally April is right for the mullet. March for the spots.
Thank you. I’m excited to take my 5 yr. old Grandson in April to catch a few, clean them and fry’em up.

You may catch a few mullets that got left behind. Also the drums ref and black are still hitting in the creeks. Choice of bait is FRESH shrimp The green fishbite works great as well Bloodworms are at an all time high. About 20.00 a bag and they were not thTybig at all. Good luck and please post pics of your catches. We all love pics
I have a place in Monkey Junction in the same neighborhood as Jeff Wolf a population inshore guide from the area. Real nice gentleman & family. You might know him. I thought I ask him also. Those spot and fresh mullet are great eating.
No sir I don’t know him. I don’t care for seafoods. I just love the sport. Love the water. I give my catch away to the elderly in the community. Do fish fries for them as well.
Your talking about whiting? Correct. They are good eating.
Yea, many refer to them as Virginia mullet.

True but a Virginia mullet has black stripes and a regular mullet is like silver all over. The whiting don’t see to get as big. At least around here. I have caught mullets as big as drums sometimes. Even some with the spot on their tails.
I’ve even eaten popeye mullet on off the grill flavored w/ BBQ sauce. Very tasty. I’ve eaten salted mullet too but I found that if you hear the word “rusty” stay clear. They definitely have a fairly quick expiration date.
I’ve salt water fished all my life but upon just reading I wasn’t aware of the many types of mullet. whiting & Virginia mullet fresh are really good to eat. I actually thought whiting & Virginia species were the same. Haven’t fished for them in years. My wife grew up on Emerald Isle and our son at early age loved catching mullet out of the surf. My 5 1/2 year old Grandson is ready for the experience as the 2 1/2 year old will watch and handle fish. Keeping them focused on Boy stuff is essential in my humble opinion.

Yes the blues and pop eyed mullet must bleed out and cook as soon as possible
