I only had a couple hours just before sundown to fish today and managed to catch 5 keepers. All 8" to 9". Caught at least as many smaller ones. Same lake as last time. Just enough for a nice meal for me. Nice clean fish.

Good gills dave, love them and crappies even over walleye which I feel are a bit overrated. But then again, we all have unique tastebuds, I much prefer venison over beef and most don’t agree. To each their own I guess.

Nice mess. How thick is the ice? Water clarity? How many cranks off bottom? Waxies or fly larvea? In a hut or bucket seat? MAN I MISS THAT! Fry with the fins on or off? Good eats my friend!

Thanks! The ice is about 5 inches thick, snow covered. 22' to 26' of clear water. I was using waxworms. The schools would pass through at 18' to 22' and some were right on bottom. I have a flasher which helps a lot! I brought a folding chair to sit in because I have a bad back. I fillet all my fish then soak them overnight in salt water. Then I dip them in an egg wash and coat with cornmeal and assorted spices and fry them in oil in the pan. Yum!

Mmmmmm mmmmmmm mm fresh caught gills! Pre-seasoned by nature, not much is needed to enhance the flavor. Blugill along with their cousins the Redear, and shell cracker and the like are the only sunfish I absolutely leave the skin on.
