Bass at a trout derby

So im fishing at a trout derby this am and all of a sudden my line goes tight so im reeling in my line rellize im on an ultralight pole with 6lb line a tiny treble hook and im thinking im going to win this derby noobody is catching anything at all after about 20 min of playing this fish i get it close enough to shore to see this fish has shown up to a gun fight with a knife onky i could catch a 5 lb bass at a trout derby with powerbait

That is great I have always said rather be lucky than good. How did the trout derby go? I have only caught trout on power bait and have wonder why, I would think carp and catfish would bite on it. Now I know bass do.

Nope no trout nobody waa catching any looks like mr bass had a few though his belly was fat

Who said i wasnt happy it was a hell of a nice bass lol even more fun on the ultra light tackle.still cant belive i caught it on powerbait.

Wow...that is a hawg...and on the light tackle you sure had to finesse that rascal to the dock! Congratulations on the catch...even though it was a surprise species!

Who would have thought a nice bass like that or any bass for that matter would hit a ball of powerbait, thatâs pretty wild.

Nice looking fish and it must have been really hungry to hit the power bait. Never saw that before but just goes to show that you never know what youâre gonna reel in

It probably has some of the same ingredients/scent as the Powerbait worms, fluke baits & trailers. I've had success with those at times.

Not too surprised. Fish will hit almost anything at some point. Iâve caught trout on 5â Senkos, more than once.
