Zara Spook for me. I have about every color some w knockers and have caught 1000s LMB w it in NJ over the years many over 5 pounds. Draws fish from deep, in cover and good lure for night time. Use a 7ft MH StCroix w Shimano Stradic 3000, 15lb spider wire.

4” or 5” Yum Dinger usually wacky rigged. With a 5” either wacky or Texas rigged.

Crankbait , hands down .
Biggest bass ( #10.1) at lake fork , Tex . w/ squarebill crankbait
Next biggest bass ( # 9.6 ) at lake naconiche , Tex . w/ lipless crankbait
Kazillion more bass over the years caught with crankbaits more than any other type of lure I own ...
I’ve caught largemouth , spots , Guadalupe , white , and even a peacock bass on crankbaits ...

Think worm is #1 choice so far. If everyone is like me, we fish what we enjoy fishing and have confidence in. Glad we are not limited to one bait because all have an application in specific conditions and locations. I’ve fished a Spook for Florida strain LMB and have not been as successful as w the more aggressive northern strains in my home. Nice to see what others prefer. Tight lines.

Watermelon 5 inch Senko. My second choice would be a 3" very flexible ribbed watermelon swim bait on a 1/4 oz jig.
I have spent many a day just fishing those two lures. In answer to the just one, it would be the Senko. My preference is the Yamamoto even though there are cheaper brands. Adding a parameter, if you had said favorite surface lure, it would be a 2" floating fat rebel black over silver. I know I mentioned 3 lures, but I did clarify my favorite in direct answer to your question.

The best thing about a worm is that it's adaptable to every type of conditions. Deep, shallow, open water, salad bowl, and every other possibility. The same can't be said for any other type of lure. Others shine in the proper conditions, but not everywhere.

I agree with Fred. Very hard to use crankbaits or spooks in the lily pads, reeds and brush. But senko type baits can be used anywhere.

Fish change their diet so as one bait is better than others. Only one would have to be a 'chatter bait'. Size and color is always changing but always catching. Super spook, whopper ploppper, crank bait in shad color that goes down to 5', plastic worms.
