I leave the big tanks at home and use the adapter to refill the little 1lb tanks taken out on the ice. At 8.00ea those things make it expensive…so I refill it off the RV 30lb’ers.
Hmmm...I might just start doing that too. I looked into it last year, watched a few utube videos and ended up feeling like it might be risky if you were not real careful. Once the initial investment is made in the coupler/adapter and big tank...the cost per refill is roughly under 2 bucks a canister. I always forget to monitor what a one pound tank does, but with the "Little Buddy" model heater I think it is around 5 ish hours. Thank you for mentioning what you do!

Thank you Outcast! It was indeed a memorable day on the ice for those perch. I polished off the entire remainder of the catch for last nights dinner so it's time to get into them again! Hope you are doing well on the East side of the State over there! This coming cold snap is just what we need to get good ice everywhere!
Today, I was a few hundred yards away from open water (on 5 inches of good ice), but with all the folks in close proximity I was starting to wonder if we'd crack off on a giant slab and float away from the main connection to shore! The more people that showed up, the more the ice started to gently bob like a rubber trampoline sheet. The subtle rising and falling motion kept whooshing water up and outward inside the shanty! A bit unnerving to say the least! I was actually kind of glad to pack up and head back home after 2 hours! You hear about that happening now and then on Saginaw Bay...although a crack like that is probably more due to water movement than anglers!
Thank you Outcast! It was indeed a memorable day o... (

It is nice to be retired and able to pick your days Yack! Have not been out due to ice conditions, auger seized up on me last
winter… operator error… mayhaps.. really liked that auger too. Used 1lb propane canisters as
Fuel..
Won’t be out anytime soon as my wife and I are headed downstate to daughters house tomorrow for a couple days, then on to Florida with a stop to see her brother in Memphis for a couple days.. final destination Naples for 8-10 days… I do have a fishing trip set up for Largemouth and Peacock Bass in the Everglades, mile marker 41 on Alligator Alley!
Should be interesting even if we don’t catch..!

Wow...that trip sounds like a fun adventure! All the best to you for a pleasant experience and some great catching!
That is a bugger about your auger. After many years of cutting by hand I sprung for a drill operated approach and so far it has worked out well. There is a guy down around New Baltimore (if I remember correctly) that makes a nifty adapter that fits a standard hand Mora styled ice auger and it works very well. You can still bring out the handle crank just in case the drill battery fizzles. I bought it on E-Bay last season.
By the time you return...the ice should be rock solid everywhere...I hope!
That is why I am a weekday fisherman
