Right you are, Henry. I am fortunate enough to know the "P" of the CPR Band, Jeff Pevar. About 15-20 years ago, a close friend, playing lead guitar in a local band called the Rogue Suspects, called to invite me to come to hear the band on a particular night, saying..."we have a guy joining us for the evening, that will blow you away with his guitar playing, don't miss it".
Having known Dirk for many years, and knowing that he had acquired HIS guitar excellence from the tutelage of none other than the late great Stevie Ray Vaughn, as a youth growing up in Texas, I took him at his word when he said the guy was "extraordinary"......and then he threw in..."and he plays with DAVID CROSBY !!"
Thus that night, meeting Jeff Pevar, who would go on to fall in love with another friend, the lovely Inger, and move here to Ashland, Oregon, and connect us all with CPR and Crosby and James Raymond (Crosby's long lost son).
I do believe that Crosby and his music and musical path, have truly helped shape not only our musical tastes, but some of our collective morality of our generation. The man was quite outspoken politically (much to the chagrin of some of his earlier band mates) and most definitely made us become aware that strife can be tempered with kindness and communication.
I have always loved his tenor voice and close harmonies, have been listening to "Four-way Street" since hearing of his passing. He certainly left a mark on me, as well as millions of others.

R.I.P. David Crosby....you, as a living person, will be sorely missed, but your music legacy and moral philosophy has certainly given you life everlasting, IMHO....thanks.
Right you are, Henry. I am fortunate enough to kno... (show quote)

And Crosby was a founding member of the Byrds. All together now. . . "Hey mister tambourine man play a song for me."

A friend of mine returned my old Alvarez 12 string to me after 25-30 years. It was in pretty bad shape. I brought the bow in the top back down by placing a small container of water inside the body and sealed it off. I then placed some heavy weights on the top and waited patiently. When the water absorbed into the top framing I left it for a couple of weeks and it straightened out the bow. I put on new strings last November and tuned it up. My first song I played was β€œMr. Tambourine Man”. It’s been many years since I played a 12 string and the sound blew me away. I still have it and still play it occasionally πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Those of us that have an affinity for stellar musicians playing live, in a small, intimate setting, are truly blessed, here in the Rogue Valley.

Since Jeff (Pevar...the "P" of CPR) came to town, it has only gotten better. One of the best concerts I have ever been to, was Pevar and the two guitar players from Little Feat, passing through and visiting Jeff. The three of them on-stage on folding chairs, only acoustic guitars (and they each had several) were used and believe me...no one even noticed the absence of other instruments. The venue was a tiny converted store front in the railroad district of Ashland, with a capacity of roughly 100 patrons.
The "tiny venue concerts" apparently appeals to Pevar, despite the fact that he was Phil Lesh's choice on guitar for the first iteration of "Phil & Friends" (a Grateful Dead-like band, after Jerry Garcia died), & regularly goes on tour with "Jefferson Starship", Kim Carnes and so many others, all over the world. So much so, that he and his now-wife, Inger, have occasional "House Concerts" with his wide-ranging musician buddies passing through.
The house they lease has a huge living room that they invite 50-75 friends and fans to enjoy an evening of up close amazement.
As you can well tell, I feel blessed to be one of the "friends", and never balk at paying $40-$50 to "go to my friends house to listen to music". We all bring a "potluck share", and I have never left without making a few new friends and sharing with longtime ones.

If you get the chance to ever see/hear Pevar, with whomever he is playing with...do so......Crosby knew he was special and I concur.

David Crosby died today. He was 81. I think the "Deja Vu" album was one of their best.

One song by CSN&Y always makes me wonder what else would have happened in my life had I not been in the Military service when Woodstock happened: Wooden Ships. Beautiful tune, but message was lost on me at that time. In spite of all their problems and differences, they made great music together.
