“HE’S OUR PERSONAL GUIDE”
Series: How do you see Jesus?
Today’s devotion is kind of an extension to last week’s, but instead of looking at Jesus as a general overseer or helper of ours, as a group, we will look at Him as our “Personal Guide”, in a one-on-one setting.
Most of you know what it means to have a “personal guide” for fishing or hunting. It’s usually a person who you hire, who has more specific knowledge about the area and/or prey you are going after, whether it be fish or other game. As an individual, you can glean an abundance of knowledge from many other sources, such as the internet, friends, books, or fishing buddies. However, many people have said that hiring an experienced guide is, in most cases, the quickest and most efficient way to have a successful day fishing or hunting a new area that you’re not familiar with. I think the key to getting the “most for your money” would probably be to watch, listen, and ask questions.
The verses we’ll be looking at today are in the same chapter as last week (Psalms 23), but different verses. Most of you are probably familiar with David , the “shepherd boy”. He was a very young man who , although young, was apparently quite experienced at taking care of sheep. He also made it clear that he had someone watching out for him.
“The Lord is MY shepherd; I have all that I need.”
Psalms 23:1 NLT
He also said the Lord was his “guide” to go the right, moral way.
(Even though, at times he strayed)
“He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.”
Psalms 23:3 NLT
There are times when we all get distracted or wander off the “right path”. If we stay close to Him, and ask for direction, He will ALWAYS be close enough to us to help us back onto the path we should be on. David put it this way:
“You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will PURSUE me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”
Psalms 23:5-6 NLT
We ALL can have the same “Personal Guide” that David had if we just ask him into our lives. It doesn’t mean every day will be roses ( PB lunkers, trophy mounts, or perfect weather without mosquitoes), but He will be right with us to help us over those rough spots along the way. If we fall, now and then, He will be there to pick us up and get us back on the path. He is always available to listen to our problems (thru prayer), and when we need specific directions or more information, He has given us a complete “instruction manual” (called The Bible) that will tell us just about everything we need to know, to navigate this path we call life.
May God bless and keep you all,
Randy
