If you ever chance to visit New Orleans, you will almost certainly have to visit the Vieux Carri, or French Quarter. There is a lot of see there, and fabulous restaurants for dining. I am not able to winnow a list of these to one or two, you will just have to visit as many as you have time to get around to as many as possible.

One of our favorite stops in the open-air restaurant that is famous for beignets and Cajun, or dark roast coffee.
Hopefully you will be visiting during warm weather and be seated out in the open. One of the things you will be forced to notice is there are a gang of pigeons who will be begging for you to toss them a bite of your beignet.
Some of these guys are quite adept in handling large pieces. One that drew our attention and admiration would do a special trick. He would pick up the large piece, toss it over his back hoping to break off a more manageable sized piece, so he could swallow it. He would continue this until the entire beignet was consumed.

Since the entirety of Louisiana changed hands several times between the French and Spanish governments, there is a lot of different styles of architecture of apartments built by the Spanish for their officials during the period when Spain was owner. The United States entered the picture by its purchase of 828,000 square miles in the Louisiana Purchase.

One imposing structure that dominated this area is Saint Louis Cathedral. Also in this same area is “Pirates Alley” were all sorts of goods taken by pirates would be sold and at a good price.

If you have teen age boys in your party, you might have a hard time dragging them away from some of the clubs in the area. Often there will be beautiful girls swinging on velvet swings who will be scantily dressed and swinging out the second story of their club to entice customers to come in and enjoy the show!

There is one final and serious warning! Never wander off the beaten path. Stay on the streets and bright lights of the quarter, even if you may think you know a shortcut to your hotel, car or something else. It is simply too dangerous, and you are risking the lives or your party and yourself. Just Sayin…RJS

That last piece of advice would be good to follow no matter WHAT city you might be in nowadays.
ESPECIALLY at night.

Gordon: There is one hotel/bar in the quarter where the bar is like a merrygo-round. So if you aren't careful and have several drinks you will have a hard time finding your way! Just Sayin...RJS

I was walking in the French quarter one evening, trying to decide where to stop for supper. I saw a place with patio seating and a sign advertising Cajun shrimp, all you can eat. Well that was back when I was a lot younger than I am now, and back then I could just about put a smorgasbord out of business. I was often referred to as a bottomless pit. As a matter of fact, when I was a firefighter, the guys made a Dymo label with my name and put it on the switch for the garbage disposer. One of my lifelong regrets is that I never took the 72-ounce steak challenge in Amarillo. Anyway, I decided that this was the place for me!

I ordered the 'all you can eat Cajun shrimp' which were peel n' eat, served in a small shiny galvanized bucket. Very casual! Up until then, I didn't understand that Cajun food is often hot n' spicy! I'm sorry to admit that I'm just about the biggest wimp in town when it comes to spicy hot. I had to stop LONG before I was full because my lips burned too much to go on!

Well, Barnacles you would have run into the same 'rigged' game in Amarillo. They don't pay off for the 72 oz steak unless you also consume the salad, the dessert, the baked Potato along with the steak. I have been by there, but never stopped or tried their offer. The Amarillo trick dosent' depend on hot sauce, but just sheer volume of food. Just Sayin...RJS
