The stateside army spends a lot of time teaching us to slack off and hide, if we don't have a specific job to do. When we come home and still have service time, we have a lot of slack time. I disappeared to one of the lakes on base. If I stayed around the company area, I was sure to get some detail or another. I figured staying on base constituted "sticking around". I believed then and still do, that the out of sight out of mind concept was encouraged.
Agreed... we learned well the true meaning of volunteering!
