I've been using Stren Magnathin mono for many years and like the quality especially the smaller diameter size in relation to pound test rating. I have not been able to find certain popular sizes and after researching find it is no longer made. I've read some good reviews from previous magnathin users on a couple of other brands...Sunshine Super Natural and Berkley XL Smooth. Both were highly rated for smooth easy casting as well as breaking strength and durability. Just wondering if any Stage members have used either of these 2 and your thoughts. I appreciate your input.

I thought Berkley bought the Stren brand so there may not be much difference in brands. I have used Berkley with no complaints for years.
I have had great luck with Berkley Trilene XL!

I use Berkley XL on all my mono rods Seesalt. The XT will take more abuse, but is stiffer. The XL seems to tie and cast better, and is softer.

seesalt... I am in agreement with the others here who recommended Trilene XL. It has a little extra stretch to it, but very low memory, which is really good in terms of casting characteristics. (I have never noticed anything about the diameter one way or the other.)
Before ya go too far & commit to a wholesale changeover, why not go to a tackle store / bait shop and spool up there and see how you like it. Maybe they will have alternatives to try as well, so bring multiple reels or spools and give yourself a basis for comparison. Good Luck !
Thanks guys for the input
I always used Berkly great reliablty on all my 10 poles.

Is there an advantage to using mono as opposed to braid? I have braid on all my reels…..

I use braid but have a mono leader, figure fish see the leader less and if I get snag the leader breaks and not a lot of $$ braid

I use both
Like braid for throwing swim baits ,pig and jig and top water plugs.
And in brushed areas.
I even bought the Berkeley rods bait caster and spinning rod the Lightning rod called the Shocker for braided lines.
Love both of them.
You can also use Mono.Good luck this season and safe fishing on the water.
