I'm finally retired and can hunt and fish at leasure. Well at least when my wife tells me I can.
I need your recipes for fish and game to try out on my family. I'm also looking for the unusual like Raccoon or Oppossim, Squirrel rabbit and the like.
Please only send the ones you have personaly tried. Not just copied from a book without trying it yourself.
If you give me permission I may even put them in book form and give to family and friends. I will of course use your name, as it appears on this format, to give you due credit.
I won't publish the recipe without your ok

I have a good squirrel stew recipe. Haven't had it in several years but I sure liked it when I did.

I'll try to find it. I'm pretty sure I know where it is.

Suppose to bring back to boil and simmer for 10 min or so.

Thanks for your recipe on squirrel. I haven't fixed squirrel in over 25 years. My wife says she won't eat a rodent. Possibly because I call them Tree Rats.
In years past, when I did cook them they were really good.

When in college I had BBQ Raccoon. It was great but I have no idea how to cook it. Any suggestions?
I also had Oppossim, I remember it being a bit greasy but still good.

It's probly been 12 years or so since I've made that stew. I remember that it was really good though.

You have some great squirrels for eating there in Indiana. Corn fed, fat and tender.

Many places in Lafayette Indiana have a very high squirrel population. My location especially is high.Hunting within the city is not allowed, but trapping nusance animals is.I trap squirrels that rob my bird feeder and take them to my daughter's house in Romney. There I dispatch and clean them. A trapping and hunting license is required.

Sounds like a good source of stew meat to me.
Hope you can try that recipe and be sure to let me know how you like it.

Two Venison recipes to pass along.
For Christmas I obtained 30 lbs of ground venison in 2 pound portions ( 15 ) New Year's Eve I made Venison meat loaf.
1 pound hamburger
2 pounds venison
2 medium onions chopped
3 medium eggs
1 red Bell Pepper chopped
1 cup quick oats
1 half cup milk
1 half cup ketchup
1 half cup mustard
All ingredients were well mixed together and baked at 425 degrees for 45 minutes. Then topped with Tomato sauce and baked an additional 25 minutes.
It was the hit of our party.
Today I made burgers.
2 pounds venison
2 pounds hamburger
1 yellow Bell Pepper chopped
1 medium onion chopped
1 Tabel spoon minced garlic, mixed a formed into 1/4 pound burgers.
Placed in Broiler until done.
Just my wife and I this time. Again tasted great. I only cooked 4 of them, froze the rest for future meals.

We have a meatloaf we fix that is FABLOUS.

It's 1 pound of ground beef and 1 pound of Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage.
3 tablespoons of ketchup
1 1/2 teaspoon or so horseradish
1 cup of bread crumbs
1 cup of milk
1 egg.
Bake at 350 + for bout 1 hour 15 min or so.

If you like meatloaf and kinda spicy food you should try it.
However, it's not really THAT spicy.

Showed this post to my wife. She reminded me that I used some sausage she had to much for biscuits and gravy and I used the rest. About 1 pound.

Sounds good. My wife reminded me that I did use sausage. She had more than she needed for biscuits and gravy.
Never thought about the Horse Radish. Got some in a cheese gift set. Now I know what to do with it.
Thanks 👍
