I am new here - Any Metro reports of herring?

Hi Folks:
I'm Arnie and I am pleased to make your acquaintances. I surf fish the metro area most times of the year.
Are there any reports of herring running? I fish the NY/Ct shoreline piers and there are none here. I called tackle shops in the Jones Beach area today, and they also have no positive reports. Anybody else that can weigh in on this.

Arnie, it might be nothing but there's a ton of Stripers in the Housatonic River in CT feeding on giant schools of bait. It might be herring. Check the area between the Merritt Parkway and Sikorsky.

Been tossing Sabiki rigs in Jamaica Bay and have been catching bucket full of Herring.. I pickle a couple and with most of them I rig them with a 9/0 hook that has wire leader on it. And then I freeze it to be used as bait come spring for Blue fish..
