Dimmer switches

This year after having to drive more at night during the holiday season, especially on 2 lane roads, I realized how much I miss the old floorboard mounted dimmer switches. To me they were much easier to use and safer as well because you could keep both hands on the steering wheel and simply use your foot rather than trying to find the steering column mounted switch. I grew up with the floor type so maybe just harder for an old man to adapt. I also remember my dad having a 1960's Cadillac with an automatic dimer mounted on the dash. It would dim the lights from reflection on white road signs LOL. Just wondering what which type of switch the other members of the Stage prefer?

I'd prefer headlights that don't blind you. These new extra bright LEDs are killers!

This year after having to drive more at night duri... (show quote)

I did like the floorboard mounted models, gave a satisfying “click” when you hit them. Gotta agree with Kandy about those new headlights, especially when some inconsiderate driver either on coming or on your tail doesn’t dim them.

Even the low beams are blinding on a big SUV.

My issue is those dummies who blind you with the brights on in the freaking fog which we all know blinds you worse driving in fog .I actually had to tell my wife whose response was, I like the little blue light on the dashboard. 😧 No honey you're going to run people off the road doing that 🤣

Our Subaru has the automatic dimmer but I don’t care for it. It works fine if traffic is coming but doesn’t work when approaching a stop sign at night. The floor mounted switch had a tendency to stick in the winter when dragging snow and salt into your vehicle on your boots

Gotta agree about loving the floor switch, my '89 F250 has one.
On my other vehicles, I can't even guess how many times I have inadvertently either bumped the steering column arm or simply had it in "bright " mode when I turned on the headlights and suddenly, I am the idiot blinding folks. Not a problem with the floor switch....wish car manufacturers would go back to them.
.........But then I also long for "wind-wing" windows for us smokers and radios that don't require a tutorial and inordinate amount of study of the owners manual to operate.

One of the funniest things to ever happen to me regarding the "automatic headlight dimmer", was while out cruising the back roads of Kansas, smoking a joint in a Mark IV Lincoln my buddy had rented for his week-long stay. We came to a "T" in the road, and there was a billboard dead center ahead. Apparently they were changing it or repairing it, or some such, so it was simply a white sign, no words or anything, just white.
Well....on approach, that poor Lincoln had a terrible time trying to figure out whether to be on high beams or low beams, as it squarely faced that blank white billboard.
HIGH-low-HIGH-low-HIGH-low-HIGH-low-HIGH........we just sat at the stop sign, watching the incessant switching and laughing our azzez off at an inanimate object's dilemma !
Is it truly possible to experience "schadenfreude" towards a....... vehicle ?
If that actually IS a thing, I believe that my buddy and I certainly did have that feeling that night ! Just friggin hilarious back then, and remains so today...... the car who simply could NOT make up its mind.
I have the feeling that with Teslas etc. that very much want to be "self-drive", we are going to hear many more "quandary stories" regarding our vehicles.....I just hope the warranty on these vehicles includes the "Vehicular Therapist" fees.
I want my car to be able to "work through" these traumatic incidents of confusion, when necessary. I would hate for my vehicle to start doubting its own wisdom and question each decision with trepidation....lol !

Yes I agree with you on the push out vent windows for smoking and to me they circulated the fresh air much better.

Yes, I don't smoke but it would be nice to open a vent window while raining lightly and not have the wipers push the water off the windshield into the car!!

With a new car I don't know which lever to push or pull it might be the turn signal windshield wiper or the dimmer switch in my 79 truck I push it once it dims and push it again bright nothing to it old is better
