Went fishing today. Water was clear and 56 degrees. Not even a bite. So I came home and looked up fall fishing. I read several articles. They all said to fish shallow to mid depths. What got me was the lure recommendation. They suggested every single lure known to man. In other words, the authors really don’t have a clue!

This time of year I fish on the bottom with a shr5on a grub head around pier columns or any structure for Black Drum or Red Fish

I didn’t get a hit in my last 4 fishing trips in NJ. Cold water fishing for warm water fish really sucks.

Up here, when the water gets down to the mid 50°s, they tend to head deeper. Look at edges that drop off the shallow flats into 10-20+ feet. Fish very slow along the edge with soft plastics, or a Ned Rig. Unweighted Stick worms, or soft Jerkbaits usually work for me. Later in the day when the sun has warmed the shallows, a Topwater or Wakebait can be exciting .
Good luck,Tight Lines , and remember,we love pictures.

In the Combahee river, just up the road on US 21 or US 17, you can try jig poles with about 18" line tipped with #2 crappie hook and minnow. Jig around under over -hanging limbs and brush. Hand on. Good luck.
