New Laws
Louisiana Fishing

I would advise anyone that fishes in salt water to go to the F&G web site under fishing. I did, and found (under the radar) two new laws. One is no, notta, never stainless steel hooks, the second one is a bit odd. You must have a de-hooking device on board that when taking it out, the tool must cover the point and barb. Guys I can't find one that does that, what am I missing?

I can understnd the stainless steel hooks, with the exception of salt water fly fishing, but if the hook remover has a cover over;]⁷⁷ the barb how do you get the hook out?

I pulled that law up and I can't understand that one at all. We have the same laws but that Claus is not in there.

Agree with the query over "how does that work ?...."removing a hook, but covering the point and barb"... whaaat ?
Not to mention ...WHY ? What is the "advantage"...and for whom ?.... the fish ?.... the safety of the fisherman ? That caveat hasn't appeared in Oregon regs, thank goodness, not sure how one would comply.
Think I will just continue using HEMOSTATS....they come in various sizes and grip the hook efficiently, strongly, and safely for ease of removal.

If it ain't broken....why you trying to fix it ???

Sounds like somebody in state office that make these rules have never been on a boat fishing. I went to Canada, in Manitoba, fishing hooks must be barb free. Or barbs pinched down and not hang up or catch when rubbed on skin.
I see this craziness in Minnesota, on my wheelhouse for ice fishing I must have a trailer highway tag. Then if on the lake I need a ice house license. I portable doesn't need a shelter tag.

The shelter tag is so if you dont you get it off by spring thaw they know who to contact. Or if something happens to it like a car hits it.

I have both a very long set of tweezers and a set of hemostats. I also have a long needle nose pliers, to get the hook out of the gar fish and treble hooks in the mouth of bass. I have a call out to mr green jeans to 'enlighten' me up to what will be legal. I know the reason for covering the hook, they don't want you to unhook the fish only to hook it in another place before taking it out.
