Fishing near Adirondacks Black River

Hi everyone,

I just stumbled in and love the topics and how helpful everyone is. Being a woman, the tackle shop guys don’t really take me seriously. I do what I can to learn. Working in education gives me summers off to get lots of casting time in.

I’m fairly new to fishing but I’m lucky enough to live near Lake Ontario and enjoy all the bays and streams to fish. This season I’ve caught large and small mouth bass, rainbow and brown trout and a few weeks ago in Mexico I caught my first Marlin. I’m hooked. It was a baby at 60lbs but I’ll never forget it. One thing off my bucket list. Check.

Next week I’m headed to Glenfield on the Independence River but I hear the Black River is the place to fish. Any tips on equipment and possible locations?
I own a medium weight 6 1/2 ft Ugly stick with a Shakespeare reel and a light weight 6 ft Ugly Stick with a Legalis. I am hoping to get educated before I get up there. I won’t have much time to waste.

Thanks in advance for this great place to gather more information. I’m a sponge trying to absorb as much as I can. I’ll attach a pick of the Marlin... and back to reality the tiny trout from this morning.

Ha ha thank you for that! Another great piece of advice to put with one I was told recently in my tackle box. Never leave fish to find fish.

Thank you! So much to learn! I’m lucky to live around lots of water but traveling to try for new species was incredible. I’m addicted.
