Jeff St Pete’s will fish bite when the temperature drops so fast today? Or tomorrow when it’s going to be cold in the morning but warm up a little in the afternoon. How about next week when it goes back up close to 80 degrees?

The best suggestion I have for you to find the answer is to go fish every second you can between now and when it warms up. If you GoPro it or document it a bit you can fill us in on the details. Stay warm.

If it’s not windy and one can remain relatively safe in cooler temperatures ( clothing etc ) I think it’s better than when it’s hotter than comfortable out because it’s a lot harder to stay comfortable in hot temperatures than cold unless just stay in a house or vehicle with air conditioning on.

MHO. The saltwater fish seem to slow down much more than the freshwater fish, but they all slow way down. In fact, the saltwater trout will die if the water temp. goes much below 55*. The freshwater trout will take a fly if you put it in their mouth if the water temp. is in the 30s*. Fishing is not good in the Wintertime in salt.

Well, personally I have never heard of fish going on a diet! Therefore, they are eating machines and will grab a meal any time one is offered.

I suggest if you can find bait; minnows, shad, or anything that game fish recognize as food, you will have a good chance of connecting with your query. No guarantees, but good odds. Just Sayin....RJS

it seems fishing slows when it gets cold but most likely the fish just find different spots to hang out like deeper water and are more opertuitive feeders and wait for food to come to the. but fish do bite and can be caught in cold weather which is why people ice fish. I have caught steelhead when there was snow on the ground and I had to keep freeing the guides of ice. but now days I'd rather just sit in my warm house and text about it

I've caught plenty of trout in the mountain streams and rivers when it was so cold that the guides were freezing up as well.
Certain fish will bite better than others when the weather/water is cold than others.
However, never had a lot of luck catchin Bass when the weather turns really cold. Just my experience though.

It makes for the best Lingcod fishing here on the Pacific Ocean because the Lingcod spawn cycle. Other fishing slows a bit. Lings are predators of the Rockfish.

I could see where warmer climates on salt water would have the bite slowdown because the fish are accustomed to warmer temps. Find the baitfish you will usually find the target fish.

For sure. I wonder if warmwater fish have colder blood system than cold water fish therefore they are more lethargic and less likely to be motivated into biting even with lures / bait in their face.

Cold blooded reptiles can't even move when cold. Puts them into hibernation.

that and water can only get so cold and trout in Mt Streams and lakes are in cold water most of the time so no big deal. but I know they do catch perch ice fishing and they ate warm water fish

I want to be out there on Pacific. The Charter I prefer won't go if it is too rough. It's Santa Season and our dog sitter is busy or I would of went at least one day. The biggest Lings are always onshore or a lot closer to the surf in the coldest months. I prefer shallower Salt water unless using Electric reels. They work really well. I just like GOOD FISHING. Driving is a bit of a pain off and on this time of year. Properly dressed and on the Ocean on Central Oregon Coast its pleasant. The forecast last night was 50F. Just reel few in and warm up. Hands are only thing going to be cool. could wear gloves if need be.
